2020 in Review

2020 was a year to remember for BJBMS and the greater research community. A lot happened in the world and at the journal, but we have a lot to be proud of. We are excited to bring you even more offerings in 2021, but first, we’re showcasing our top updates, achievements, and research from 2020 just for you.

Articles

We received more than 730 submissions in 2020, accepted 77 articles. About 50 articles are currently published advanced online and scheduled for publication in the forthcoming issues in 2021. BJBMS will be continuously published online with 6 printed issues in 2021.
Impact factor

Last year the BJBMS Impact Factor (2019) increased by almost 30% compared to the previous year. This year we expect an even bigger boost. Our calculations suggest an IF close to 3.1 and a CiteScore value of about 4.0.

Fast turnaround

We significantly improved the turnaround, with the average time from submission to the first decision of 19 days in 2020. The average time from acceptance to advanced online publication was 3 days.

New content

We introduced a new section, the Video articles, and published two neurosurgical technique articles, which received significant attention from the readers and viewers.

In addition, we introduced video authors’ summaries, i.e., stories told by the authors about their research, for the non-expert audience, at the journal’s blog: BJBMS Viewpoints.

Content access and article citations

BJBMS articles were accessed 532,450 on PubMed Central over the past year. The same aggregate number of visits and downloads was registered at Web of Science, Scopus, Journal’s website, EBSCO, Google Scholar, and Dimensions making an impressive sum of more than 1 million views and downloads of BJBMS articles in 2020.
