The Reviewer of the Month for May 2021: Dr. Eduardo Piemonte

Dr. Eduardo Piemonte, MD, PhD

We are proud to announce that the Reviewer of the Month Award for May 2021 goes to Dr. Eduardo Piemonte.

As a means to promote the hard work and dedication invested “behind the scenes” in order to improve scientific publications, each month BJBMS Editors select a reviewer who performed the best amongst all the reviewers in the current month. Selection is based on the quality, thoroughness and the timeliness of review. It is a difficult task for our Editors, as they try not to underestimate the time and efforts of each of the reviewers who reviewed for the BJBMS in the current month.

The main field of interest for Dr. Eduardo Piemonte are epidemiological and biomolecular studies on risk factors for oral squamous cell carcinoma, with special interest in intraoral conditions involved in the carcinogenesis process, including chronic mechanical irritation of the oral mucosa and HPV infection.

We asked Dr. Eduardo Piemonte about the importance and other aspects of the peer-review process in general:

Peer review is an instance of improvements shared between authors and reviewers. For the reviewer in particular, it requires an in-depth study of the subject to be reviewed, and a specific search for knowledge that allows them to base their decisions on the basis of evidence and not personal opinions. The essence of the review is to collaborate with the authors to reach their full potential with each publication.

BJBMS congratulates Dr. Eduardo Piemonte and wishes him many awards and recognitions in the future.
