The group of authors from Affiliated Zhongda Hospital of Southeast University performed a study on the upper tract urothelial carcinoma. In their study, the authors sought to explore the incidence trends of upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) patients and to establish a reliable and practical nomogram based on significant clinical factors to predict the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS).
The study was performed on 10852 patients with UTUC. The authors found the incidence of UTUC showed a downward trend between 1988 and 2015. In addition, they established a prognostic nomogram to predict 3-, 5- and 10-year OS and CSS rates of UTUC patients.
Based on their results published in BJBMS, the authors concluded the incidence of UTUC has shown a general downward trend in the past 30 years. Moreover, the prognostic nomogram we established can provide a personalized risk assessment for the survival of UTUC patients.
